Conspiracy Theory - My bit...

As per Wikipedia (The best ever website after Google??), "Conspiracy theory was originally a neutral descriptor for any claim of civil, criminal, or political conspiracy. However, it has become largely pejorative and used almost exclusively to refer to any fringe theory which explains a historical or current event as the result of a secret plot by conspirators of almost superhuman power and cunning."

Here I am going to talk about my little CT. And this is about how this World Cup is being projected as Sachin's world cup and Indian team being the favorites.

First of all, I don't see any clear favorites this time. India, Australia, Sri Lanka, South Africa, England and even West Indies can win this world cup, thanks to the fact that you need to win only 3 games after the league phase.I think all those teams will definitely be going into Quarter final and then it is just a matter of having 3 good days, just like Kapil's devils had back in '83. Play a fantastic inning of 175, win the semi final and then final. And the cup was on it's way to Bombay...

Then, where is all these talk about India being the favorites to win coming from?

My bet, and here is the CT, is on the business acumen of a few men, who knows that the world cup is going to be a dud if Indian population is not hooked into it. They learned it the hard way from 2007 debacle in WI. And they must have taken a leaf out of Aamir Khan's marketing strategies of creating the visibility by all means.

And that's where Sachin Tendulkar's last world cup phrase is also coming from. People of India who has even the slightest of idea of what is meant by Cricket, knows this guy, and would have at least willed him on and prayed for him while he is in the middle. Such is his popularity that his name and the possibility that this is going to be his last world cup, can definitely bring in some interest from all quarters.

And the planners of the world cup made sure that India is going to be present in the world cup at least for 2/3rd days of the whole exercise. What other way is there to make sure that you keep the Indian public hooked? What this has done is that Indian public is going to have their focus on this tournament until that last ball is bowled...

ICC had to get something out of this tournament and they are playing their cards very well.

I was also wondering why our team players are putting extra pressure on them by saying that this is going to be their gift to Sachin. But then, they also know that it is just a matter of winning 3 important matches and they have as much chance as any of the ones mentioned above.

PS: I would love to see Bangladesh having 2-3 great days and who know's it could be a Bangladesh Vs West Indies final. That would of course be second in my list. The first is "India winning the world cup on it's soil"!!!

Go India...
